The Countryside Code
Community feedback tells us that people love our rural setting. We can all help our farmers maintain this environment for us by a few actions that will ensure that livestock and crops are safeguarded. See the very helpful codes linked below.Very serious issues with dogs and livestock happen here in our valley each year. We especially need to be clear on guidance for walking our dogs. See the link below. Our local farmers wish us to understand that livestock with young are going to be especially sensitive to dogs.
Parking in our narrow lanes is also an issue for farmers when trying to move equipment from one part of the valley to the other. Please take care with parking. Farming in our valley has it's challenges. If we value our rural landscape then we must support our local farmers.

Within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
We are fully within the CAONB and have environmental protection similar in status to a National Park and a clear responsibilty to help maintain this important national asset. CAONB Postion Statements provide guidance on a number of important environment issues. Their Management Plan is referenced by both Wilts and B&NES draft core strategies and is an important document in identifying important aspects of our landscape, heritage and habitat. See link to draft Plan for 2013 - 2018 below.

Tranquility and Dark Skies
The Cotswolds AONB Management Plan 2008-131 notes that:
Noise and activity arising from developments in the countryside can have an adverse affect on tranquil areas. Lighting can also have a widespread impact and needs careful consideration and design.
Policy DTP1 of the plan states:
“That all Local Development Framework documents and planning decision-making processes will use the following criteria to determine the acceptability of a proposed development in the Cotswolds AONB. Development will: …
Maintain or improve the existing level of tranquillity…”
