FLEWG PROJECT LOOKING AT PROTECTING NATURAL DARKNESS
A developing craze for lighting up gardens throughout the year, plus developments in our communities that feature uplighters with No planning restrictions, have caused much concern locally and in parishes around Bath. We are in an area of outstanding Natural Beauty and visitors from Bath and surrounding towns can enjoy the experience of looking up at the stars. There are also major concerns for wildlife. This area being of world importance for bats.
We are working on a conference in Bath in September 2017 with Bath Astronomers and the William Herschel Society. A diagram taken from the Nightblite website showing light pollution in our area has been produced.See diagram and web links here Dark Skies

INCREASE IN TRAFFIC AND SPEEDING SPEEDING THROUGH OUR VILLAGES
We support measures to create sustainable communities rather than cause extra traffic and the significant dangers resulting.
The Freshford Website has a link to a form to send to Highways via an arrangement agreed with the Valley Parishes Alliance. see here
WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO SO GIVEN THE CONSTANT SITUATIONS WE AS COMMUNITIES ENCOUNTER. We suggest that you keep a copy of the wording on your complaint and the date.
You can send a form for the following reasons:
"If you see or are involved in an incident to do with the A36 - or any other main road in the area - that causes you concern, it is important that Highways England is notified, so that they can decide whether remedial action is needed. Whenever you witness an accident, incident, near miss or simply an example of dangerous driving, please make a note of it with as much detail as you can. What happened? When? Where? What were the weather conditions? If it is something that could be photographed and you were able to take a picture, so much the better. Have you felt in danger either as a driver - maybe turning right on to the main road - or as a pedestrian, trying to cross from one side to the other? Would different markings on the road have made you feel safer? To make a report, simply click on the image to download the form, then complete it and send it off as instructed.
