TANIA'S WILDFLOWER WORKSHOP
In March 2016 local wildlife author and consultant Tania Pascoe gave us a wildflower meadow workshop in her own Freshford kitchen and garden. The focus was on British wild flowers. Tania particularly wished to build knowledge in our own community. Tania's own considerable research combined with practical trials in her garden made for a highly rewarding, enjoyable, and informative event. We were blessed with a bright sunny spring day!
Subjects included: The negative effects of wildflower meadow loss and what we gain if we start to restore, types of meadow, traditions of agricultural use in former times, good examples of wildflower meadows remaining or restored, examples of flower heights and and seed mixes and volumes for different types of meadows, soil requirements, preparation and weeding out, sowing technique, perennial and annual planting options, methods for small localised areas of gardens, cutting regimes mower and scythe, as well as a question and answer opportunity over coffee and cake. A sample starter packet of seeds was handed out to each attendee.
